Our DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) / AdBlue Heaters are Built for Reliability.

At Preheat Engineering, our DEF/AdBlue heaters are purpose-built to perform in the toughest conditions. Constructed from stainless steel 316, they are highly resistant to the corrosive effects of AdBlue. Materials such as brass and mild steel degrade quickly when exposed to the ammonia in AdBlue, which is why our design uses stainless steel for durability and long service life.

Our heaters are tailored to your specific requirements, starting from 2kW upwards, and can be supplied with:

  • Single phase 230V AC or 415V 3 phase power supply
  • Fully sheathed elements for extended heater life
  • Dual thermostats for precise temperature control and overheat protection
  • Optional fluid level sensor switch
  • IP66 rated control panel for safe and easy operation

Every heater is built to suit the tank dimensions, required power rating, and the volume of AdBlue being stored. With our experience manufacturing bespoke systems for a wide range of clients, we can quickly provide accurate pricing and lead times.

About Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) / AdBlue

AdBlue – also known as Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) – is an aqueous urea solution containing 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionised water.

It is used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. The formula is defined by ISO 22241 standards.

What is AdBlue?

Although AdBlue has been studied since the 1950s, it was first used commercially in 2004 by Nissan Diesel Corporation. Today, it is mandatory across Europe and widely adopted worldwide, cutting diesel exhaust NOx emissions by over 90%.

•Below -11°C, AdBlue crystallises and becomes unusable until thawed

•Above +30°C or in direct sunlight, the solution breaks down and loses effectiveness

•Exposure to air reduces quality, so it must be stored in sealed tanks or containers

The Challenge

As AdBlue usage becomes mandatory for generators, fleets, and industrial diesel applications, reliable storage and temperature management are critical. Crystallised AdBlue cannot be injected into SCR systems, which means NOx levels will not be reduced, leaving engines non-compliant and potentially causing downtime.

This is where Preheat Engineering provides the solution. Our heaters are designed to maintain AdBlue at the correct temperature, ensuring free-flowing fluid and full system compliance, even in challenging environments.

Why Choose Preheat Engineering?

  • Proven expertise – decades of heater design and manufacturing
  • Custom solutions – each heater built to your specific requirements
  • Robust engineering – stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance
  • Performance focus – designed to enhance reliability, reduce downtime, and extend equipment life

Whether you need a single AdBlue heater or multiple units for fleet and generator installations, Preheat offers reliable heating solutions engineered for the toughest conditions.
